Argentina Withdraws from COP29 in Baku

The Argentine delegation participating in COP29 withdrew from the UN climate summit in Baku on the orders of the country's president, Javier Milei, according to sources from the Presidency. The decision to leave the summit was first reported by Climática magazine and occurred after the Argentine delegation's interventions in the initial days of the forum.

This withdrawal does not mean that Argentina is withdrawing from the Paris Agreement to combat climate change. Javier Milei spoke for the first time with Donald Trump since his electoral victory in the United States and prior to his trip to Florida to meet with the Republican leader, who described him as his "favorite president".

The phone conversation between the two leaders took place shortly after it was reported that Milei would not attend the Ibero-American Summit in Cuenca, Ecuador, because it coincides with his trip to Florida to participate in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). This event will take place at Mar-a-Lago, where he will meet with Trump.
